Tips For Successful Fuel Deliveries All Season Long
Written on: December 7, 2020
Our Downey Energy fuel delivery crews really take pride in what they do: with a legacy that stretches back more than a century, they’re no strangers to working in hazardous conditions to make sure your family stays safe and comfortable throughout the winter.
Those conditions get particularly bad when snow and ice blanket the Hudson Valley.
When winter weather happens, maneuvering heavy equipment on slippery surfaces can be a challenge, to say the least; if a driver loses his footing, he can easily get injured.
3 Steps To A Smooth Fuel Delivery
That’s why it’s really helpful to us if you can do three simple things when conditions make your next fuel delivery a challenge:
- Keep a path clear to your oil fill pipe or propane tank – Please remove snow, ice, and fallen branches that might be blocking the route to your heating oil fill pipe or propane tank. Try to keep at least a one-foot-wide path clear.
- Clear and de-ice your driveway – By law, we’re not allowed to deliver your fuel if it’s not safe to do so; if your driveway is covered with snow or ice, please clear and sand or salt it. Our delivery vehicles need a 9-foot to 10-foot-wide clear path in your driveway to allow enough room to maneuver. It also helps if you mark the borders of your driveway if the snow has covered them.
- Be proactive – The fewer no-heat emergencies we have, the better we can serve everyone who needs heat here in the Hudson Valley. You can avoid most fuel runouts by placing your order when your fuel levels reach no lower than the one-quarter mark – and if you want to avoid the hassle of calling altogether, just sign up for FREE automatic fuel delivery!
